Alec Hardy
Alexander Ogilvy "Alec" Hardy was an Anglican bishop in India from 1937 to 1948. He was born in 1891,〔“Who was Who” 1897-2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 ISBN 978-0-19-954087-7〕 educated at Trinity College, Dublin〔Dublin University, ''Calendar for the year'' 1916-1917, Hodges, Figgis and Son〕 and ordained in 1917.〔Crockford's Clerical Directory1947-48 Oxford, OUP,1947〕 His first post was a curacy at Templemore. After this he was a SPG Missionary at Hazaribagh then Murhu for 20 years before his elevation to the Episcopate as the Bishop of Nagpur. Finally he was Vicar of Gargrave, an Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Bradford and an Honorary Canon of its Cathedral〔(NPG details )〕 until his retirement in 1957.
